Why Finding a Marketing Agency Isn't the Hard Part - Finding the Right One Is

Every founder's LinkedIn feed is full of agency recommendations. Here's why that's not actually solving the problem - and what does.

Open LinkedIn on any given day and you'll see it:

"Looking for a performance marketing agency."

"Need an awesome branding agency."

"Anyone know a good AEO/SEO agency?"

Within an hour, the comments fill up - mostly agencies replying "we're great, hire us!" A few genuine recommendations get buried somewhere in the middle.

Finding an agency has never been the hard part

Here's the thing nobody says out loud: there is no shortage of marketing agencies. A quick search, a LinkedIn post, a founder WhatsApp group - any of these will surface a dozen names within the hour.

The hard part is finding the right one. Not just any agency - the one that's:

  • Actually great at your specific problem, not marketing in general
  • A fit for your budget, without feeling like a compromise
  • Available now, not three months from now
  • Genuinely excited about your brief, not just taking on another client
  • Not going to overpromise in the pitch and underdeliver in month two
  • Still doing what they said they'd do, six months in

That last one is the one that really separates good agency partnerships from bad ones. A lot of agencies are great in the first thirty days. Far fewer stay great once the novelty wears off.

Why the usual ways of finding an agency don't solve this

Most founders end up choosing one of two paths:

  1. A large, well-known agency network - safe, but often expensive, layered with account managers, and slower to move than an early-stage company needs.
  2. A cold search or a LinkedIn recommendation thread - fast, but with zero real intelligence behind it. You're picking based on who happened to comment, not who's actually the best fit for your brief.

Neither approach accounts for the thing that actually matters: context. Your budget, your industry, your timeline, what's already been tried and failed, what "good" looks like for your specific brand.

What we built instead

This is the exact problem we built Marko, SuperStuff's AI matchmaking tool, to solve.

Instead of searching through a list of agencies yourself, Marko has a simple conversation with you to understand what you're actually trying to achieve - your goals, budget, industry, and stage. Then it uses SuperStuff's data on hundreds of vetted agencies (capabilities, past work, pricing, reviews) to recommend the ones that are genuinely a fit, not just available.

From there, it's a warm introduction - not another cold outbound pitch to sort through.

If you're trying to find the right marketing or creative partner this year, chat with Marko and see who it matches you with 🪄.
